Client Context

A standards and compliance organization responsible for developing and maintaining technical codes used across an entire industry. The organization manages hundreds of documents spanning thousands of pages, with a team of auditors and technical experts who review, compare, and validate standards on a continuous basis.

The Problem

The core bottleneck was not a shortage of expertise. It was the volume of manual work required before any expert judgment could be applied. Auditors spent the majority of their time cross-referencing documents, locating relevant clauses, and confirming that existing policy language addressed new requirements. By the time they reached the actual analysis, a significant portion of the workday was already gone. Across a team of auditors, this represented hundreds of hours per month of work that added no unique value — only the retrieval and organization of information that a well-designed system could handle.

What We Built

We built an AI-powered document analysis pipeline using retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) designed specifically for regulatory and standards content. The system ingests documents in multiple formats, breaks them into semantically coherent sections, and builds a searchable knowledge layer indexed by standard type, section, and version. Auditors can query the system in natural language and receive precise, sourced responses — including clause-level citations — in seconds. A comparison engine identifies gaps between new requirements and existing policy language and generates structured reports ready for human review.

Technical Approach

  • RAG architecture with vector embeddings across 500 pages of regulatory content
  • Semantic chunking strategy preserving document structure and section relationships
  • Metadata tagging by standard type, version, and document section for scoped retrieval
  • Gap analysis engine comparing requirement language against existing policy library
  • Structured output generation producing audit-ready comparison reports
  • Human-in-the-loop review layer for low-confidence and edge-case outputs

Timeline

Pilot: 4 weeks. Production deployment: 10 weeks from discovery.

The Outcome

Review cycles that previously took a full week for a senior auditor now complete in under a day. Consistency improved significantly because the retrieval system applies the same logic every time, regardless of which team member runs the query. The organization now processes three times the document volume with the same headcount, having redeployed auditor time toward higher-value analysis work.

We had been manually reviewing regulatory documents for years. I did not think automation was realistic for work this nuanced. TTG proved me wrong — not just with a demo, but with a system that has been running in production every day since. Our team genuinely could not go back to the old way.
